What a unique opportunity to share the evening with professionals from a truly unique and impactful profession. Thank you for sharing a part of your evening with us!
Thanks Tom! Well written. Note: a drop is a quest for perfection. The pattern, the exit, altitude, airspeed, drift, timing...everything has to be perfect with stuff what we can control. But perfection is difficult to achieve and we're trying every time. When the Load of retardant is out of the Tanker, there are a couple seconds before it reaches the ground where an unexpected gust can take it away... All you can do is stay in present time, fly safely to your exit and forget about the past meaning the drop you just did. Gone in the past... On the way to the airport to get another load, you debrief yourself, as honestly as possible. Kidding yourself doesn't help. A good sense of humor helps to mitigate the frustration. I'm always looking for 100%"On target, on line" assessment from the Air Attack above and after the season, I still think about few drops where I should have done a better job. We' ll try again next fire season...
